Men usually stalked the wallabies, killing them with hunting spears. The bones and skins were also utilized by the mob. The emu is known as kapirng in the Dhauwurd Wurrung language of the Gunditjmara people. In Gunditjmara culture the emu is a sub-totem called Kappring/Kapirng and it is associated with Gabadj, the black cockatoo moiety. Emus were hunted near watercourses and wetlands across the Budj Bim landscape. Men used several hunting methods, each requiring skill and patience. Hunters took advantage of emus’ curious nature. Roasted emu meat and eggs were considered delicacies. Emu feathers, fat, egg shells, sinews, and bones were utilized in different ways.
